Welcome to The baking dietitian! A bit of an oxymoron am I right? A dietitian? Who bakes? A dietitian is meant to be the corner stone of good nutrition in society. The Khaleesi of salad eating, the breaker of biscuits and the mother of complete wellness, right? Uhhm, wrong. Although the above mentioned is partially true a dietitian is so much more than that and I am here to prove just that.

On this blog I will be taking you on a journey of self discovery as I share delicious recipes with you, beautiful pictures of the dishes I will prepare, life moments and copious amounts of chocolate and wine. So if you are wanting to learn more about baking, food and beverages this is the place for you. I am sorry to disappoint those of you who opened this blog expecting to see carbohydrate free cake and smoothie recipes. But my mission through this blog is to show you that food is something to be profoundly enjoyed in all its forms, share my life and my knowledge as a dietitian with you.

Why baking you may ask? I don’t think I can completely answer this question but there is something so deeply satisfying to me when I put various food items together to create literally what I would call a labour of love. That is all baking (and cooking) is for me. Pure, unadulterated love and that is why I do it. As much as I love to prepare good food for myself I find food to be the glue that brings us together as people because I mean, who doesn’t love food? Baking is always a learning experience for me. I have such a long bucket list of things I still want to bake that I haven’t gotten to yet. So I am so excited to have started this blog so I can push myself a little further in the direction I want to go and to have you with me on this journey.

ABOUT ME

Hi, my name is Nomfundo Amanda Zondi and I am a registered South African Dietitian who is obsessed about baking. I am originally from a town called Pietermaritzburg in KwaZulu Natal, South Africa. I have recently relocated to Pretoria in Gauteng, South Africa. I have been a dietitian for a few years now and I am still trying to figure out and find my niche in this vast discipline. When I started studying Dietetics I thought ow awesome I’m going to be able to tell people, “eat this and that and all your weight problems will vanish", boy was I wrong.

Being a dietitian is many things; there are clinical dietitians who work in multidisciplinary teams in hospitals who calculate how much energy and what mode of nutrition is suitable for patients, research dietitians who have dedicated their lives to growing the body of knowledge surrounding nutrition, community dietitians who work closely with the community and community representatives to give practical solutions to nutrition problems. There are corporate dietitians who take care of the nutritional needs of those in the corporate world, food service dietitians who work in food service industry implementing and managing various menus and the list goes on and on. As you can see there is a vast spectrum and as a young dietitian I am still figuring it out but one thing I know for sure is I adore baking. When I am sad I bake, when I’m happy I bake, when I’m uninspired I bake and when I’m dreaming I research new things I want to bake and I bake them.

Among other things I am a die hard chocolate fan, to the point that I'll have a chocolate brownie, with hot chocolate with a side of chocolate sauce to dip the brownie. You probably think I’m joking and I wish I was too. On my list of interests is also being with those I love, drinking wine, cooking and exercising.

So, stay tuned by subscribing to my emailing list below and following me on the socials and let’s go on an adventure together.

Xxx
